Dragons Call Part 1: Winged Warrior? Not!

In a magical faraway land only known as Tiny Town Village, there lived a young boy called Steve. He had read books about ninjas and how they protected people from harm. He longed for a chance to do brave things of the sort, and decided to create a group called the Winged Warriors, that comprised of himself, his fire dragon Arizo, his water-elf friend Naida, and her water dragon Daina. Every night they snuck out of bed to patrol around the streets of  Tiny Town Village, watching out for trouble; mostly dragon hunters. What Steve and Naida did not know, however, was that every night they were being followed.

Steve's little sister Sally longed to be a Winged  Warrior, or at least a junior Winged Warrior. However, Steve and Naida were always too busy to train her, thus, Sally's dream of joining the team seemed hopeless. Nevertheless, that did not stop the determined Sally from joining them every night on the back of Arizo and Daina's dragon baby, Girl Chaos, and Steve and Naida never knew a thing. Until one night, they found out the hardest way possible.

It was a breezy night.  Steve and Naida steered their dragons expertly through the village. All of a sudden, PHOOF! Two snakes landed before them. They were Snakeroo and Snakeree, two snake siblings that worked for a notorious gangster and dragon hunter known as the Snake or the Big Boss.

"Lookie here, SSSSSSSSnakeree," Snakeroo hissed, drawing a chain gun from a compartment in his winged jet pack. "Dragonssssssss."

"Prepare to be taken down, SSSSSSSSSSSnakeroo," Steve mocked. "The Winged Warriors mean businessssss!"

Snakeroo was furious at being so outrightly mocked like that. "You asked for it!" he snarled, and flew through the air at Arizo. He pressed the trigger of the chain gun, and a chain shot through the air, wrapping itself around one of Arizo's horns. However, Arizo was not so easily defeated. He clamped his jaw down onto the wing of Snakeroo's winged jet pack. "Aaaargh, let go of me, you beast! You file vermin! You over-sized lizard!" Snakeroo howled. Insulting Arizo only angered the dragon, however, and Arizo shook Snakeroo until his fangs rattled, and Steve was slowly making his way towards Snakeroo with his  sword raised.

Snakeree was using her killer drone to fire shots at Daina. However, Daina had sprained a wing recently, and could not battle as effortlessly as before, and Snakeree was using it as an advantage. Sally could not bear to sit around watching Daina suffer. "Charge!" she screamed at the top of her voice, as Girl Chaos swooped into the battle. "Sally?!" Steve's jaw dropped. Girl Chaos used her hammer tail to smash the drone  against a wall of rock. Sally whooped with joy, turning round to face the older kids triumphantly. "You see? I'm fit to be a Winged Warrior! I saved your butts! Take that, filthy snakes! And that!" What Sally did not see, was Snakeree jamming a button her her drone remote, and she did not see the drone slowly rising up from where it had crashed, nor did she see the gun aiming straight at her.

"Sally! Watch out!" Naida screamed, pointing her water rod behind Sally. Sally turned around to see the gun pointing directly at her chest, with Snakeree's hand right above a bright red button, the narrow slits of her eyes glinting evilly in the moonlight. "Sally! No!" Steve cried out. "Ssssssay bye bye," Snakeree hissed maliciously, and her scaled hand moved towards the button as if in slow-motion. Then, all of a sudden, it sped up and slammed into the button.

Sally watched wide-eyed as the green bullet slowly pushed its way through the air towards her. Out of the corners of her eyes, she saw Steve drop his sword and leap to the ground, and Naida using her powers to make the water from her water rod turn into a shield, but Sally knew it was too late. This was her fate. She was destined to never be a Winged Warrior, she would never grow up to be as cool as her brother, she would never-

SLAM! Before Sally could finish thinking what she would never get to do, Girl Chaos swung herself up, exposing her soft underbelly (any dragon's weakest spot) to the bullet, flinging Sally to the ground and taking the bullet instead. Arizo bellowed loudly, releasing Snakeroo from his grip. Snakeroo instantly flew towards the little dragon with blood oozing out of a wound in her underelly, and wrapped her in chains, heaving her away so quickly no one could react. For one thing, Steve was unarmed and so was Naida, and Daina and Arizo were so stunned they were rooted to the spot. And before they knew it, Snakeree was jumping onto her killer drone and speeding away, cackling evilly.

Steve retrieved his sword and leapt onto Arizo's back, yelling to Naida, "Make sure Sally's alright, we're going after them."

Naida sat Sally down, and spoke to her gently. "Have you been following us on Girl Chaos for a while?"

Sally nodded numbly.

"You do know she hasn't been able to fly until a while ago, right? And that it's dangerous to ride a baby dragon before they've been trained, right?"

"I'm sorry, Naida. This is all my fault. If I hadn't come and messed things up, Girl would be safe, and  the snakes would have been captured." Sally bowed her head. Then she had a thought. "Wait, why would the Big Boss need dragons anyway?"

Naida sighed. "You already know from school, dragons are rare and valuable because they can be drained of their kapcha, their life source. And their life source can power up the whole kingdom of WannabeNinjago, remember? That's why they're being hunted."

Now it was Sally's turn to sigh. "I know all this! I mean why the Big Boss needs them. He's crazy powerful already. Why does he need even more power? It doesn't make sense."

Naida stroked Sally's dark brown waves. "I don't know, Sally. But some people are like that. They can never have enough power. And that's why we need to stop them."

Sally nodded, and after a while began to think about her mother. Her mother, Arwen, had been a pretty notorious gangster, until she moved to Tiny Town Village with her young son and baby daughter for a new start. Then she had become a law-abiding citizen. Sally knew nothing of her father, though she knew that he had been a gangster, and she guessed he was still one now, that being the reason why Arwen never spoke with or associated with him any longer.

At that moment, Arwen was speeding on her brown motorcycle, heading to a deserted warehouse under a rundown bridge. She parked her bike and took off her helmet, her short, wavy blonde hair billowing out. "I didn't expect you to show up," a familiar voice came from behind her. "The last time we met, you said you never wanted to see me again."

"What do you want, Snake?" Arwen crossed her arms.

"Ah, Arson, always wanting to cut to the chase. Wouldn't you like some tea?"

"And risk getting poisoned or drugged? Not a chance. I know you too well. " Arwen sneered.

"Well, now, let's not bring up the past." The Snake got out of his spacecraft and rubbed his hands. "Now let's talk business."

Arwen stared suspiciously at the short, burly man in front of her.  His dark brown waves were, as usual, neatly combed back and his eyes were hidden behind silver- screened sunglasses. "I've heard that there are some mighty fine dragons hanging around your village. I'll make you a deal."

Arwen spat on the ground next to his feet , which were in expensive leather shoes. "Pah! This is too you! Calling me here just to use me again, just trying to get your grabby hands on more dragons, not even asking about your own children. You make me sick. "

The Snake's eyes narrowed behind his glasses. "Do you seriously think moving to a new village, changing your name and teaching at a village school will change you into a new person? That doesn't fool me in the least. I know deep down there is still the Arson I know, the Arson who wouldn't hesitate to hand over a couple of mindless beasts for some big cha-ching. "

Arwen hesitated, then shook her head firmly. "Not a chance, big guy. I'm a mother now, and I got a duty as one."

"Think how you could support your children with all that cash," the Snake said in a smooth, convincing tone.

"Huh! You don't give a ball of gum about them kids! You just trying to trick me into doing something I wouldn't ever do." With that, she turned and sped off on her motorcycle.

When Steve finally brought Girl Chaos back, Naida and Sally were asleep. He gently laid Girl Chaos down next to Daina and shook Sally awake. "C'mon, Sally, we got to get back before Mom notices we're gone."

Sally sleepily got onto Arizo's back behind Steve and flew home, before falling into her bed.

Steve peered into Arwen's room and stared thoughtfully at the empty bed.
